ADOHTA 2019 Scope of practice – review update – ADOHTA 2021

ADOHTA 2019 Scope of practice – review update

The scope of practice registration standard applies to all registered dental practitioners and has recently been under review by all Health Ministers with referral to the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Healthcare.

The session will update participants about the progress and outcome of the review.

Some key points to note are that the proposed changes :

  • will not alter the scope of practice
  • will not allow dental hygienists, dental prosthetists, dental therapists and oral health therapists – to become or practice as a dentist, through CPD.

Reference will also be made to the Board no longer accrediting “add on “ programs extending scope of practice. The new regime now allows for broadening of  knowledge, expertise and competence, by completing CPD.

Some key risk management messages will be provided to minimise clinic-legal risk.

MIPS is a not for profit membership medical defence organisation providing professional indemnity insurance, risk education and other membership benefits to dental practitioners throughout Australia.
